Delhi Capitals Appoint Sri Lankan Legend Chaminda Vaas as Fast Bowling Coach for IPL 2027
Delhi Capitals have appointed Sri Lankan legend Chaminda Vaas as fast bowling coach ahead of IPL 2027. With Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh also joining the revamped setup, the franchise is preparing for a fresh title push.
The franchise announced Vaas's appointment through a social media video featuring the former Sri Lankan fast bowler. Although Vaas played in the IPL for Deccan Chargers between 2008 and 2010, the upcoming season will mark his first stint as a coach in the tournament.
Vaas, one of Sri Lanka's most successful bowlers with 355 Test wickets and 400 ODI wickets, will join Delhi Capitals' new backroom staff under head coach Sourav Ganguly. He was also a member of Sri Lanka's 1996 World Cup-winning team.
Earlier this week, Delhi Capitals appointed Yuvraj Singh as their assistant and batting coach. Vaas replaces Munaf Patel, who had served as the franchise's bowling coach for the previous two seasons.
The 52-year-old Vaas has coached Sri Lanka's men's team in the same role on three separate occasions. His coaching career began with a short-term contract with New Zealand, after which he was appointed to the Sri Lankan team from 2013 to 2015. In 2016, he was contracted as Ireland's bowling coach for the T20 World Cup before Sri Lanka hired him again.
Ganguly was appointed Delhi Capitals' head coach on October 6. He has returned to the franchise, which he has been associated with since 2019. After leading Pretoria Capitals in SA20, this will be his first assignment as a head coach in the IPL.
Yuvraj formally took up his first coaching role on October 13 as assistant and batting coach. The former India all-rounder played a key role in the country's victories at the 2007 T20 World Cup and the 2011 ODI World Cup. He will reunite with Ganguly as Delhi Capitals look to win their first IPL title.
These appointments follow Delhi Capitals' decision to part ways with their previous coaching group after two seasons under head coach Hemang Badani. The franchise finished sixth in IPL 2026 after missing out on the playoffs in 2025.
With Vaas bringing international bowling expertise, Ganguly providing leadership and Yuvraj adding batting experience, Delhi Capitals will look to their revamped coaching team to help turn their long-standing IPL title ambitions into reality.
